Rachel Elaine Smith, 73, passed away peacefully on June 14, 2025, in Spartanburg, South Carolina. Born on July 23, 1951, in Beckley, West Virginia, Rachel’s life was filled with love, faith, and a deep commitment to those around her. She graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in Atlanta, Georgia, and later earned a certification in Early Childhood Development from Central Piedmont Community College. Over the years, Rachel embraced multiple careers with passion and dedication—working as a phlebotomist, an early childhood instructor, and for many years as a licensed barber. Her journey took her to several cities including Washington, DC; Detroit, Michigan; Charlotte, North Carolina; and eventually back to Inman and Landrum in South Carolina. Everywhere she lived, Rachel brought warmth and joy. She found happiness in life’s simple pleasures—cooking heartfelt meals for her family (especially her three grandsons), exploring thrift stores, traveling, relaxing at the beach, and tending lovingly to her garden and plants. Her home was always a place of laughter and comfort. A woman of deep spiritual devotion, Rachel was a faithful member of Ridgeville Baptist Church and participated in the Lydia Ladies Committee. Her faith was a guiding force that touched every aspect of her life
Rachel is lovingly remembered by her daughter Tiffany Smith; son Raymond (Bobby) Carlock; grandsons Zorian Smith, Jacob Griffin, and Karter Griffin; sisters Janete Smith and Brenda Smith-Landrum; aunt Whitney Wilkins of Black Mountain, NC; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and friends whose lives were brightened by her presence.
She now joins in eternal rest her mother Annell L. Smith; father William Lonnie Smith; sisters Carolene Smith, Mary Clark, and Gertrude Harris Carter; Grandmother Lois Lyles; and niece Trista Landrum
A Celebration of Life will be held on June 21, 2025, at Ridgeville Baptist Church, 385 Ridgeville Church Road at 2:00PM. The family will be receiving visitors at 370 Miller Pointe Drive, Inman, SC 29349 starting on Wednesday June 18th
May her spirit bloom eternally in the hearts she touched.
