L T Thompson

L T Thompson Jr., 81 years of age, passed on Sunday April 14, 2024 at home in Moore, South Carolina. 

L T Thompson Jr. was born on August 14th, 1942 in Knoxville, TN to the late L T Thompson Sr. and Bridie Cohen Thompson. He is preceded in death by both parents, his wife Dorothy Jackson Thompson, his sister Helen Thompson Garrett, and his granddaughter Samantha Thompson. 

L T married Dorothy Jackson in 1964 and five children were born from this union. L T professed his life to Christ at an early age.  

L T loved spending time with his family and friends. He enjoyed eating, traveling, dancing, listening to music, going to the movies and storytelling. L T always had a smile on his face and would uplift others with his cheerful and energetic personality. L T was a loving and caring father and granddaddy.  

L T’s vibrant and lively spirit not only impacted his family, but it also impacted everyone he interacted with such as his classmates, church members, and the children at the schools where he worked. L T was employed by James F. Byrnes High School where he was known as "Granddaddy" to the students until he retired. In 2021, L T retired again as a custodian from Florence Chapel Middle School. During his retirement, he enjoyed exercising, cooling his heels, cutting the grass, traveling to his hometown of Knoxville, TN to visit his relatives. 

L T leaves to cherish his loving memory his sister, Alberta Thompson Garrett; his children Carmel Thompson, L T Thompson III, Robin Thompson Floyd, Shawn Thompson, and Wayne Thompson (Pam); 11 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren, his devoted partner Betty Dillard, Tony Dillard (son of Betty Dillard), and host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Visitation will be held at Alexander Casey and Gist Funeral Service 1223 Old Anderson Mill RD Moore, SC 29369 on Saturday, April 20th, 2024 from 1:00PM - 6:00 PM.

The Celebration of Life will be held at Greater Hopewell Baptist Church 215 Hickory Dr, Startex, SC 29377 on Sunday, April 21st, 2024 at 2:00PM.

The Interment Service will be held at Sherwood Chapel and Memorial Gardens 3176 Airport Hwy, Alcoa, TN 37701. Date and time of Interment Service TBD.
